The semi-nude body of a Canje, Berbice man was on Thursday morning discovered on the roadway.
Ramlall Bassant’s body covered as residents and Police gathered at the scene of the discovery
Dead is Ramlall Bassant, also called “Doc” and “Rope” of Lot 12 Goed Banana Land, East Canje.
The 54-year-old unemployed man was discovered lying face up at about 06:30h by a passerby, who was on his way to work. The man was clad in a shirt and a pair of jeans that was below his waist. He was not wearing underpants at the time.
The Police were summoned to the scene and an investigation was launched.
The now dead man was last seen at about 20:00h on Wednesday evening leaving his mother’s home.

Bassant lived with his 81-year-old mother, Lilian Bassant. She told Guyana Times that she was asleep when her son left.
His body was discovered at a street, which villagers refer to as ‘Pandit Runner Dam’; a place where his sister, Chandakaeali Bassant, said he never went.
According to Chandakaeali, her brother had no reason to venture to that area since most of his outings were to a cousin who lives along the main access road, which is a few houses away.
Bassant leaves to mourn two sisters and his mother.
“He was with his mother since he born. He grow in this same yard; it is not easy for this family after losing one a few days ago,” the sister said.
Police are investigating.
