Senior citizens, others honoured at Rose Hall’s anniversary celebrations
As celebratory activities continue in commemoration of Rose Hall Town’s 46th anniversary, the Rose Hall Town Anniversary and Development Organisation (RHTDO) used the opportunity to pay homage to the town’s senior citizens.
This is the fourth year that RHTDO has recognised the seniors who have made significant contributions to the area’s development.
This activity is sponsored by the organisation and Lucky Dollar Store as a joint project and this year they honour five citizens, two young doctors and two single parents.

Venezia Thomas at 83, was the oldest of the lot. She is a former student of Rose Hall Primary who said goodbye to that institution at age 14. Thomas started as a domestic and worked with several prominent Rose Hall citizens including the bank manager at a tender age. Thomas and the four others received hampers.
Two medical doctors, Talita Cort and Shari LaRose were presented with plaques. Cort returned from Cuba earlier this year and is waiting for her registration to be completed before she is placed. She is hoping to join a long list of prominent doctors from the town.
LaRose is currently at the Port Mourant Hospital as a General Practitioner. She returned from Cuba in 2008 after completing her studies.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony at Lucky Dollar, Chairman of RHTDO, Charles Roberts noted that the organisation is happy to partner with Lucky Dollar on the project, which is developmental in nature.
Meanwhile, Branch Manager of Lucky Dollar, Inez Murray reminded that it was the fourth year that they are partnering with RHTDO to host the event. She said the company chose the town’s anniversary to give back to the community which has always supported the business.
Lucky Dollar also donated a three-piece chair suite to the Port Mourant Rehabilitation Centre, the entity that provides tuition for 17 children with special needs.
In thanking the store, head of the Centre, Bridget Chichester said the donation was highly appreciated and will go a long way towards the delivery of their mandate.
She explained that five of the children who attend the centre are from the Port Mourant and Rose Hall Town Primary.
Meanwhile a lucky customer, Melanie Dean was also presented with a 32-inch flat-screen television.
