Senior Police rank committed to stand trial for rape of a minor

An Assistant Superintendent of Police who was charged for engaging in sexual activity with a 13-year-old child in June 2018 was on Tuesday afternoon committed to stand trial at the High Court.
Thirty-one-year-old Seecharran Singh of Providence Plantation, appeared before Acting Chief Magistrate Sherdel Isaacs-Marcus at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts where he was told that sufficient evidence was provided by the prosecution against him and as such, the case will be sent to the High Court for trial.
The cop was represented by Attorney-at-Law, Bernard DaSilva.
Singh was charged for allegedly engaging in sexual activity with the underaged child during June 17-18, 2018, at his home.
It is alleged that the child was left in the care of Singh on June 17, while her mother was out with a friend. It was reported that he made advances towards the child and raped her.
Upon the return of the child’s mother and the friend, the incident of what took place between the teen and the police officer was recounted to one of the female adults and the police were informed.
Singh, on his first appearance, was not required to plea to the indictable charge that was read in-camera. However, he was granted bail in the sum of $250,000 after spending two weeks on remand.
