Senior Superintendent Ramesh Ashram new Traffic Chief
Reorganising of GPF continues
Senior Superintendent Ramesh Ashram, who is the Regional Commander of Region Eight (Potaro-Siparuni) is Guyana’s new Traffic Chief. Ashram’s reassignment comes at a time when the Guyana Police Force is undergoing a major reorganisation. Ashram was once the Traffic Chief before he was reassigned as Commander in Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice) and subsequently Region Eight.
The former Traffic Chief, Senior Superintendent Linden Isle is now the new Commander of Region Six (East Berbice-Corentyne), while the Regional Commander, Senior Superintendent Calvin Brutus, will be heading to the Force’s Headquarters, where he will take over from Deputy Commissioner Paul Williams.
On Monday, the Guyana Police Force announced that Deputy Commissioner of Police, Paul Williams was sent on his outstanding 192 days’ annual leave. There has been a reorganising of the GPF by Home Affairs Minister, Robeson Benn. Earlier this month, Commissioner of Police, Leslie James and Deputy Police Commissioner, Maxine Graham were sent on pre-retirement leave.
Meanwhile, Senior Superintendent Phillip Azore has taken up a post at the Civil Defence Commission (CDC) on Tuesday.
Azore was the acting Commander of the Police Regional Division 4-A, and was replaced by Assistant Commissioner of Police Simon Mc Bean, who now overlooks from Cummings Lodge on the East Coast to Agricola on the East Bank of Demerara (ECD).
Also, Senior Superintendent Ewart Wray, the Head of the GPF’s Immigration Office, will be sent to Force Headquarters, where he will be assisting Senior Superintendent Brutus. Superintendent Dennis Stephens will now be heading the Immigration Office. While Superintendent Boodnarine Persaud will be sent to Region Three as Deputy Commander.
Last week, Senior Superintendent Wendell Blanhum returned as Crime Chief – replacing Senior Superintendent Michael Kingston. Blanhum was previously serving as Police Commander of Region One (Barima-Waini).
In 2015, he served as Crime Chief but was demoted to Deputy Commander of A Division in 2017 following a controversial Commission of Inquiry into an alleged plot to assassinate former President David Granger.
Nevertheless, taking over the position of Commander of Region One is Superintendent Jairam Ramlakhan, who served as the Police Force’s Public Relations Officer for a number of years.
Meanwhile, when this publication reached out to Home Affairs Minister Robeson Benn for a comment on the reshuffling, he said he wishes not to comment on the issue, and “will allow the matter to go through without too much fuss”. (G9)
