After one week of creating havoc on East Coast Demerara (ECD), the alleged perpetrator on Monday had to answer to six counts of armed robbery when he appeared before Magistrate Zameena Ally-Seepaul at the Sparendaam Magistrate’s Court.
Uriel Mentore, 26, of Lot 86 Nelson Street, Mocha-Archadia, East Bank Demerara, was not required to plead to the indictable charges when they were read to him.
The Prosecution stated that between October 9 and November 11, 2016, he robbed several businesses, carting off in excess of $3.3 million in cash and valuables.
Mentore was arrested on Thursday evening when he and an accomplice reportedly robbed Viscom Electronics at Mon Repos Public Road, ECD. His accomplice escaped.
He was charged with committing a series of armed robberies at various businesses, including: Shivo’s Supermarket at Nonpareil, ECD, on October 19; Wisdom Supermarket, Vryheid’s Lust, ECD, on November 3; R Prashad’s Service Station, Mon Repos Railway Embankment, ECD, on November 5; the attempted robbery at Daily’s Supermarket at Park Street, Enterprise, ECD, on November 4; the attempted robbery at Shell Gas Station at Ogle, ECD, on November 9; and the latest committed on Viscom Electronics.
Mentore was remanded to prison and will return to court on December 15.
Meanwhile, his girlfriend, Fiona Smith, 24, of 8 Paradise, ECD, was charged with receiving stolen articles, property of Viscom Electronics. She pleaded not guilty and was placed on $35,000 bail. She will return to court on December 7.
A motorcycle and two full-faced protective helmets allegedly used during the crimes were seized by the Police as they continue their hunt for the accomplice.
