Several arrested for late-night disturbance at Kitty car wash

Three persons were taken into police custody, and several others are being sought regarding an incident at a car wash on Tuesday along Railway Line, Kitty, Georgetown.

According to reports, at about 02:05h, police responded to a report of a motorcar playing loud and continuous music at the establishment, thus causing annoyance to residents.
Upon arrival, ranks attempted to address the reported disturbance but were allegedly obstructed by several persons at the location while carrying out their duties. As a result, an additional police patrol was summoned to assist.
Several persons were subsequently apprehended as police are on the hunt for others in relation to the incident.
The Guyana Police Force, in a statement, related that it is aware of video footage circulating on social media showing a portion of the interaction between police ranks and several persons at the location. It confirmed that the circumstances surrounding the entire incident are being investigated.
This incident comes on the heels of a collaboration between the GPF and EPA to promote greater compliance with regulations governing noise levels across the country.
The EPA continues to strengthen its enforcement of noise pollution regulations through closer collaboration with the GPF-a move that will allow the police to officially charge individuals under the agency’s regulations.
The GEA explained that this collaboration is part of a wider effort to ensure better compliance and accountability in addressing noise nuisance cases, which remain a persistent concern, particularly in urban and residential areas.
The fines attached to noise pollution offenses are substantial-ranging from $300,000 to $750,000 depending on the severity of the violation.
The EPA continues to urge citizens, especially business owners and vehicle operators, to adhere to the Environmental Protection (Noise Management) Regulations, emphasizing that enforcement will intensify once the new arrangements with the Police Force are finalised.
