Several arrested in Essequibo for breaching COVID-19 guidelines

Scores of Essequibians who were caught in large gatherings on Easter Monday were arrested for breaching COVID-19 guidelines. The violators were arrested at Adventure Resort, Lake Mainstay Resort, Golden Fleece and Capoey Lake.
Based on reports received, a crowd had gathered at the popular Capoey Lake although they were warned in advance not to do so.
The Police were strict in reinforcing the COVID-19 guidelines as the number of deaths and new cases skyrocketed over the past few days. On Sunday alone, four persons died from the virus.
The families were arrested while picnicking at the popular resorts.
The National COVID-19 Task Force Secretariat advised that persons were prohibited from Easter activities held in parks, resorts, lakes, creeks. Consumption of alcohol was also prohibited.
Up to press time, the Police had not released any information with respect to the number of persons who were arrested. The violators are expected to make their court appearance today.

Meanwhile, in Georgetown, the Police blocked off several hotspots including the Kingston Seawall, National Park, D’Urban Park and the Botanical Gardens among others.
