Several families are now forced to rebuild sections of their homes after they were damaged by a freak storm on Wednesday.
The eerie sounds of the gushing wind mixed with heavy rain began at 07:00h, swirling through Number 36 Village.
Diane Henry told Guyana Times that she was doing laundry when the “tornado-like” storm started.
She said she called on her husband, who was in the house with the six other members of the family and by the time he came downstairs, she noticed a dark cloud coming from the back. Within seconds, it was over her house.
Henry said after it passed, the sky became the roof of her house.
Another resident, who lives just a few houses
away, explained that she was in her hammock relaxing when she saw the lower flat of the house being torn apart.
“Even the vinolay from my neighbor house I see flying.”
Villagers described the storm as, “frightening; this thing just coming and zinc sheets flying…”
This is not the first time that a storm has hit this village. The reconstruction process has already begun.
