Several persons charged for breaching curfew in Region 9

Seven persons in Region Nine (Upper Takutu-Upper Essequibo), who were caught consuming alcohol and partying after 18:00h, were arrested and charged for breaching the curfew orders.
They appeared before Magistrate Allan Wilson at the Lethem Magistrate’s Court on Thursday, where they were given the chance to either pay a fine or serve an alternative of six months in prison.
They pleaded guilty to the charge when it was read to them. As such, they were each fined $16,250, failing to pay which would see them serving the 6-month sentence.
According to Police, a female was arrested in a separate incident, but was released by the court after a trial.
It was also revealed that a male who was also caught breaching the COVID-19 curfew guidelines did not appear in court when the matter was called on Thursday. As such, a warrant was issued for his arrest.
