Several persons injured in Linden Highway accident

Several persons were injured in a two-vehicle smash-up, which occurred on Saturday on the Moblissa Public Road, Soesdyke, Linden Highway.
According to Andy Pompey, who was the driver of motor car PXX 8574, which was involved in the accident, he was proceeding south along the eastern side of the road at about 10:45h when the driver of motor car PVV 8911, which was proceeding north along the western side, overtook another vehicle and ended up in his path.

As a result, the driver, who is a major in the Guyana Defence Force, said he swerved in an eastern direction so as to avoid a collision. However, despite his efforts, the car collided with the right side of his vehicle after the drivers lost control of the vehicles and ended up off the road and into a ditch. At the time of the accident, Pompey was transporting several passengers in his car, including Shennet Pompey, 42, along with a 13-year-old and an 11-year-old, all of Section A Block Y, Golden Grove, East Bank Demerara (EBD). Meanwhile, PVV 8911 was being driven by Krishna Seenarine, 28, of Kara Kara Squatting Area, Amelia’s Ward, Linden. At the time of the accident, she was transporting occupants Sonia Roopnarine, 19, and a toddler of Central Amelia’s Ward, Linden.
The drivers and injured occupants were removed from the vehicles by public-spirited citizens and transported to the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC). However, 19-year-old Roopnarine was transported to the Georgetown Public Hospital for further medical attention. The driver of motor car PVV 8911, Krishna Seenarine, is currently in Police custody assisting with the investigations. (G13)
