Sex worker remanded on armed robbery charge

A 19-year-old sex worker was on Friday remanded to prison when he appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts to answer to a charge of robbery under arms.
Godfrey Cox, of Princes Street, Georgetown, pleaded not guilty to the charge which stated that on June 20, 2018, at King and Charlotte Streets, Georgetown, while being armed with a dangerous weapon – that is a knife – he robbed David Harvey of $65,000 in cash.
The court heard that on the day in question, Harvey was heading to the Shell Gas Station on Regent Street, Georgetown to pay workers when the defendant attacked him, held him at knifepoint and relieved him of the cash that was in his pants pocket.
The prosecution objected to bail based on the seriousness of the offence and the fact that the defendant has other pending matters of a similar nature in the courts.
Magistrate Leron Daly refused bail to Cox, and the matter has been adjourned until July 20, 2018.
