Shepherd 5-for stifles East Bank

Foo hits 2nd consecutive ton

National medium pacer Romario Shepherd produced and excellent spell of swing bowling to help West Bank Demerara to first innings advantage over East Bank/Upper Demerara at the Everest Cricket Club ground on Saturday in the second round of the inaugural Guyana Cricket Board/Cricket Guyana Inc. national three-day league.

At stumps on day 2, West Demerara batting a second time reached 164/4 with national opener Tagenarine Chanderpaul making 75 before being dismissed in the dying stages of the day’s play. East Bank never looked threatening and got useful starts from Stefan Browne who top scored with 37 and Vishal Singh and Ershard Ali with 28 apiece. Romario Shephard was the pick of the bowlers claiming 5/32 while off spinner Rishi Looknauth bagged 3/57 and left-arm medium pacer Raymon Reifer 2/27.

At Young Warriors Cricket Club at Cumberland, Essequibo resuming at 111 for 8 were bowled out for 117 replying to 171 made by West Berbice on the opening day. In their second turn at the crease, West Berbice are so far putting up a better display to reach 98 for 2 before rain ended the day’s play 20 minutes before the scheduled lunch interval. Before the clouds burst Shimron Hetmyer hit an attractive 35. Play was officially called off at approximately 16:35h with West Berbice having a lead of 152 runs heading to today’s final day.

The match between hosts Lower Corentyne and Georgetown at the Albion Community Centre was also rain affected but first round centurion Jonathan Foo used the period of play to complete his second ton. When the rain the rain came at 11:40h Lower Corentyne resuming on 123 for 3 in reply to 212 made by Georgetown in their first innings reached 249 for 6.

Jonathan Foo stroked an attractive 127 and got valuable support from David Latcha with 29 and Hakeem Hinds 19. When play begins today at 09:30h Sharaz Ramsarran, 19 and Veerasammy Permaul 14 will resume batting with Lower Corentyne looking to extend their slender lead of 37 runs.

Play was officially called off at approximately 13:30h by match officials.

At Enterprise, East Coast Demerara resuming on their overnight score 129/6 with Rajendra Chandrika on 31 and Ameer Khan on 14 was eventually dismissed for 227 with Chandrika making 69 and Ameer Khan finishing on 58 not out. Kamesh Yadram and Baskar Yadram made 46 and 26 on the first day. Troy Gonsalves and Shawn Perreira had identical figures of 3/34 while Eon Hooper claimed 3/36.

In their second turn at the crease Upper Corentyne was dismissed for 194 with Assad Fudadin stroking 70, Anthony Bramble and Shawn Perriera Contributed 36 and 20 not out respectively. Bowling for East Coast Demerara, Kamesh Yadram returned with the ball to bag 5/34 while Vivian Albert supported with 3/57. East Coast Demerara closed the day on 33/1 chasing 116 for an outright victory.

At Everest, West Demerara claimed a first innings lead of 97 after they dismissed East Bank Demerara for 160. Stefan Browne top scored with 37 while Vishal Singh and Ershard Ali both scoring 28. Romario Shephard was the pick of the bowlers claiming 5/32. Rishi Looknauth had 3/57 while Raymon Reifer 2/27.

West Demerara in their second innings close the day on 164/4.Tagenarine Chanderpaul scored a well composed 75 being he was dismissed just before close of play.
