Shepherd stars again as Guyana defeat CCC

– Imlach, Johnson hit half-centuries in CG United Super50 tournament

Led by another strong bowling effort from Romario Shepherd, Guyana Harpy Eagles have defeated the Combined Campuses and Colleges (CCC) team by five wickets in the CG United Super50 tournament, played at the Brian Lara Cricket Academy in the Republic of Trinidad & Tobago.
Shepherd’s 4-19 restricted CCC to 206 all out, and half-centuries from Leon Johnson and Tevin Imlach helped to propel the Harpy Eagles to 207-5, scored in 42.5 overs.

In the chase, Harpy Eagles lost Anthony Bramble (13) and Tagenarine Chanderpaul (15), while the left-handed Shimron Hetmyer struck two boundaries before being out for nine, after being caught in the deep off a short ball from seamer Mickail Powell.
Leon Johnson and Tevin Imlach then rebuilt the innings in adding 80 runs together. Johnson reached his half-century, but departed soon after for 51 from 68 balls, after edging one to the keeper off Matthew Forde. He struck six fours in his innings.
A cautious Imlach then reached his fifty, while Sherfane Rutherford came and dominated with his 25-ball 37. Rutherford was attempting to clear long-off, but found the fielder.

Harpy Eagles nevertheless finished with a comfortable win, ending on 207-5 in 42.5 overs. Imlach ended on 63, striking six fours, while Kevin Sinclair ended unbeaten on eight.
Guyana Harpy Eagles won the toss and opted to bowl first. CCC lost Kirstan Kallicharan, who failed to score and was removed early when he was bowled by a beauty from Clinton Pestano. Zavier Barton, who made seven, was removed by Shepherd. On the other end, Demario Richards played some delightful shots in his 36, but he eventually retired hurt.
Debutant Navin Didaisee and skipper Denesh Ramdin added 46 runs together, taking CCC to 114-3 in 27.3 overs. Wickets then fell at regular intervals, and after Bidaisee was dismissed by Gudakesh Motie for 30, and Ramdin departed for 38, the CCC innings went downhill.
The lower-middle order failed to put up a resistance as the Harpy Eagles displayed their experience. Shepherd ended with 4-19 in 7.3 overs, showing yet again his class and consistency, while Kevin Sinclair had 2-48 in 10 overs. Pestano, Motie and Veerasammy Permaul each took a wicket.
