A shoemaker was attacked, stabbed and robbed by three men on Thursday evening at Independence Street, La Grange, West Bank Demerara (WBD). The incident reportedly occurred at about 19:30h in the vicinity of “Beardman” Service Station as the shoemaker was plying his trade in the area.
Based on reports received, the shoemaker of La Grange, WBD, was walking along Independence Street and while in the vicinity of the service station, he was confronted by three men, one of whom instructed him not to move and to remain quiet.
At that time, he was asked “where the gold deh” but in response, he told them that he did not have any. In retaliation, the suspect pushed his hand in the victim’s right side back pocket, pulled out his sewing needle and dealt him one stab to the upper left side shoulder.
As a result of the injury, he reportedly fell to the ground and was rendered unconscious.
The men proceeded to relieve the man of $17,000 after which they fled the scene. However, the injured shoemaker was picked up by public-spirited citizens and taken to the West Demerara Regional Hospital (WDRH) where he was examined, treated and sent away.
The victim has since given the police a statement in which he would have identified the three men who committed the act. The police are on the lookout for the three men as they continue their investigations.
Meanwhile, at La Parfaite Harmonie, WBD, Leon Worrel, a construction worker, was relieved of one Jialing motorcycle bearing registration number CH 6933 and valued at $179,000.
Police stated that on Wednesday at about 16:30h, Worrel parked the motorcycle under the front step and went about weeding.
After he had finished, he went upstairs due to the heavy downpours.
However, at about 21:00h, he got up and went to check on his motorcycle but it was missing. He immediately made checks in the area but the motorcycle was not seen.
He reported that matter to the police. As such, he was accompanied by the police and another search was conducted in the area but it proved futile.
