Shop owner arrested after ganja found on premises

A 43-year-old shop owner was arrested on Monday evening after a quantity of marijuana was found at her business place at Victoria Road, Plaisance, East Coast Demerara (ECD).

Police stated that on the day in question at about 20:20h, a party of policemen conducted a search on the premises of a supermarket of the said location. During a search in one of the iron cages, a large transparent ziplock bag was observed on the upper shelf.

The bag was examined and several smaller ziplock bags containing the marijuana were unearthed.
The owner of the establishment was told of the allegation and cautioned but she denied having knowledge about the suspected cannabis.
Nevertheless, she was arrested and escorted to the Sparendaam Police Station where the cannabis was weighed and amounted to 80.5 grams. She remains in custody pending investigations.
