Shopkeeper nabbed with ganja during Police raid

A 56-year-old shopkeeper of Fifth Street, Prospect, East Bank Demerara (EBD) is now in Police custody after he was found with a quantity of ganja during a Police raid on the EBD and in Georgetown on Tuesday.
Based on reports received, a party of Policemen carried out searches on several houses and persons in Norton Street, Bagotstown and at Fifth Street, Prospect, EBD.
A search was carried out on the home of the shopkeeper, and a black plastic bag containing a quantity of leaves, seeds, and stems were found stashed in the roof of the house, which is presently under construction.
The shopkeeper was told of the offence, arrested, and escorted to Providence Police Station, where the cannabis was weighed in his presence, amounting to 112 grams.
He is presently in custody assisting with the investigation.
Also on Tuesday, Guyana Times reported that several persons were arrested during a Police operation in the mining town of Linden.
The raid was conducted at Victory Valley, Silvertown, One Mile and Half Mile, Blueberry Hill, Block 22, Green Valley, Retrieve, Dagarrad Avenue and Mackenzie.
During the exercise, which was conducted to search for drugs, illegal firearms, ammunition or anything unlawfully obtained, the Police found 440 grams of ganja and 2.5 grams of “molly”.
Three youths from Victory Valley were arrested for attempt to commit a felony and a 33-year-old unemployed male of Republic Avenue, Mackenzie was also arrested for the offence of break and enter and larceny.
In addition, a 40-year-old man and a 34-year-old female of Oronoque Drive, Retrieve were arrested for possession of 440 grams of cannabis and 2.5 grams of methylenedioxymethamphetamine commonly known as “molly” or ecstasy. The pills were found in 19 transparent Ziploc plastic bags. (G9)
