Shot robbery suspect escapes after Albouystown crowd attacks cops

A robbery suspect, who had shot at Police ranks on Monday evening and was injured after Police returned fire in Albouystown, Georgetown, has escaped from Police custody.
The incident occurred on Monday evening at about 20:30h.
Reports are that the suspect escaped after a hostile crowd attacked Police ranks as they attempted to apprehend the injured suspect.
The ranks were reportedly in the Sussex and Cooper Streets, Georgetown area in search of a suspect involved in the GTT Giftland Mall robbery when they received information of an alleged shooting incident and the suspects were on Cooper Street, Albouystown.
The ranks were on foot heading south on Cooper Street when they observed three males matching the description of the suspects in the alleged shooting incident walking in their direction.
On seeing the ranks, one of the suspects pulled out a black metal object suspected to be a firearm from the waist of his pants and discharged a round in the direction of the ranks.
The ranks said they immediately took cover and returned fire, hitting the suspect to his left thigh.
After the suspect fell to the ground, the ranks managed to retrieve the pistol with 2 matching rounds of ammunition.
However, as they attempted to escort the injured suspect to seek medical attention, several persons in the neighbourhood surrounded the ranks, acting in a hostile manner while allegedly pelting the ranks with bricks and bottles.
It was during this time the suspect escaped the commotion and fled the scene.
Checks were made at all of the hospitals around Georgetown and based on information received, the injured suspect went to the Georgetown Public Hospital but left before being treated.
