Shot suspected bandit arrested at hospital after robbing Linden duo
A suspected bandit was in the wee hours of Thursday arrested after he turned up at the Linden Hospital Complex (LHC) to seek medical attention for a gunshot injury to his thigh.
The injured man reportedly fitted the description of one of the two men who committed a robbery at Rust Extension, Mackenzie, Linden, Region 10 (Upper Demerara-Berbice).
Based on reports received, the 48-year-old labourer and a 21-year-old male of Rust Extension were asleep when the men armed with a handgun and a crowbar respectively invaded the property about 00:30h.
Initial reports by Police revealed that the younger male was awakened by a loud banging on the door and upon checking, he was confronted by one of the suspects who held him at gunpoint. The other suspect, who was carrying the crowbar, turned his attention to the older man, and demanded cash and gold.
The two bandits, the Police stated, ransacked the house and found $114,000 in cash that belonged to both victims. Not satisfied by the cash, the bandits also relieved the victims of their mobile phones.
They were then ordered out of the house and the suspect who was armed with the gun discharged a round into the air before he and his accomplice escaped on foot.
The Police were subsequently informed of the robbery and upon visiting the scene, one 9mm spent shell and one warhead were recovered.
Meanwhile, the Police stated that about 02:05h on the day in question, a man fitting the description of one of the suspects showed up at the LHC with a gunshot injury to his left upper thigh. He was treated and admitted a patient under Police guard. Police are continuing their investigations.
