Showstoppers cop 2nd Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ title

Showstoppers totally dominated this year’s West Demerara/East Bank Demerara Zone annul Guinness ‘Greatest of the Streets’ Football Championships to claim their second consecutive title at the Pouderoyen tarmac on Friday evening.

Watched by a massive crowd, the defending champions were aligned with Hustlers in the final and made light work of the opposition after Dexroy Adams scored a double, netting in the 7th and 35th minute.

Showstoppers walked away with $450,000 for being the victors, while Hustlers received $150,000.

In the third-place playoff, Money team edged ESPN 1-0 via goal from Amoniki Buntin in the 17th; Money team won $100,000 while ESPN went home with $50,000.

Meanwhile in the first semi-final, ESPN drew with Hustlers 2-2 but the latter eventually won 2-1 on sudden death penalty kicks.

with Leroy Linden (22nd) and an own goal in the 24 being the scorers for the former while for the latter, John Waldron (7th) and Kwame Holder (14th) where the men with the conversions.

In the next knock-out match, Adams made the difference against Money Team, when he scored in the 8th minute.

The action will turn to Berbice in the second week of March, with East and West Berbice merging to form one zone.
