Simmons hat-trick inspires Rivers View fight back to top BFA League table
Andrew Simmons bulged the net three times for Rivers View FC against Wolves United FC to inspire his club’s 4-1 victory and comeback to the top of the points table, when play continued on Monday, in the BFA-GFF Men’s Senior League, at the Bartica Secondary School Ground.
The former table toppers of the League made a grand resurgence mere days after Beacons FC shot past them to record 12 points from five games. Facing a resilient Wolves United team, Rivers View had to step on the gas in the second half following a stalemate in the first 45 minutes. Andrew Simmons, a nagging bother to the Wolves defence, eventually broke free and opened the scoring in the 54th minute. He scored again shortly after from the penalty mark following a handball in the box. Wolves United responded in the 70th minute by way of a powerful strike from Mark Richards.
But Rivers View were not giving up as Omario Lake took on the Wolves defence, and got one pass, scoring one of the most beautiful goals of the season so far. It wasn’t long before Simmons scored again to complete the first hat-trick of the League.
On Tuesday, Lazio FC and Agatash United FC waged battle to a one-one draw. Malcolm Booker’s precise finish, just after the half, gave the Agatash boys their first point in their League bid. But Lazio’s Nicholas Collison also pulled a point back for his club with a cool finish at the other end five minutes to the final whistle.
Rivers View FC now leads the League with 13 points, followed by Beacon FC on 12. Play continues today with Mil Ballers FC duking it out with Potaro Strikers FC, and Rising Stars FC battling Beacon FC on Friday.
