After escaping from lawful custody, Reyon Jonas was late last week recaptured and was made to answer for his actions before Magistrate Fabayo Azore on Monday.
The 19-year-old, of Mandela Avenue, Georgetown, appeared at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, charged with escaping from lawful custody and well as break and enter and larceny.
He admitted that on October 13, 2016 at Georgetown, he broke and entered the dwelling house of Philbert Steels and stole items worth $290,310. Also, he admitted that on the same day at the same location, he escaped from Police custody. The prosecution contended that the defendant had been arrested by Police for questioning on the break and enter charge when he was told to sit on a bench at the Police Station.
However, Police Officers later realised that the man had escaped.
As such, a search was launched for him and he was later recaptured while in hiding. He was charged with both offences.
Magistrate Azore fined the man $25,000 for both charges. Failure to pay the fine will result in him serving a six-month sentence.
