Debra Hansraj, who was accused of stabbing her 21-year-old brother, Vishaul Hansraj to death in April 2017, on Friday walked free due to lack of evidence by the prosecution.
The matter was heard by City Magistrate Fabayo Azore at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts, who informed the woman that she was free to go after the prosecution failed to provide

evidence that she had indeed killed her brother.
On Easter Monday last year, the woman was accused of attacking her mother and brother while being under the influence of alcohol at their Covent Garden, East Bank Demerara home. The alleged attack reportedly stemmed from a prior
argument among the three family members.
The now dead man had allegedly confronted his sister after she had inflicted a wound to their mother.
The confrontation led to an argument during which, the now dead man grabbed a knife and attacked the murder suspect but in retaliation, she reportedly took away

the knife and dealt him two blows to his chest.
He was picked up and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre where he succumbed while receiving medical attention.
The young woman was subsequently arrested and charged. However, during the preliminary inquiry, the matter was thrown out due to insufficient evidence.
