Sleepless Pooran thrilled with important win as Tallawahs clash looms
After suffering a defeat against Barbados Royals, Guyana Amazon Warriors captain Nicholas Pooran said he could not sleep after that match. The Warriors rebounded with an all-important win against St Lucia Kings on Wednesday, and Pooran was beyond happy to come out on the winning side, as Warriors climbed to eight points.
Warriors have two matches remaining in the league stages of the tournament, both being against the rising Jamaica Tallawahs on Saturday and Sunday.
“After losing that game (against Royals), I could not sleep. It was tough, I wanted to win this game really bad as a captain, a leader. We needed this victory going into this weekend.
“I must give praise to Brandon King. He did not have the best tournament, but he showed his fight,” Pooran disclosed. “I felt like 150 we had a chance, the momentum was on our side, Odean and Shepherd at the end there. We knew that the wicket was helping the spinners and we have quality spinners in our team, so we were confident that once we bowled well in the power play, we could win this game,” Pooran said at the post-match interview.
“Gudakesh Motie bowled well, he used the conditions really good. He varied his pace, you could not (have) asked for anything better. Bowling his last over and getting the wicket of Faf was really excellent, and we are happy he can deliver performances like this,” Pooran added.
“Naveen did not start the tournament well for us, and coming to bowl four on the trot against two set batsmen was exceptional. He won the game for us in the death with Romario Shepherd.
“Two overs for 11 runs (from Shepherd), we could not ask for anything better. We know he is having a wonderful tournament, and he continues to show his class and talent.
“And then Odean Smith at the end, he is just doing his thing. We are happy things worked out for us.”
Player of the match, Gudakesh Motie, said: “It feels really good. The management has really supported me. I’ve learnt a lot from Tahir and all the overseas players.”
