It will be a rematch of the Genesis League final when the rivalry between Guyana’ top two football teams clash in the final of the Guyana Football Federation (GFF) Stag Elite League Finale after resounding victories in their
Alpha United were too much for Fruta Conquerors in their semi-final game on Friday night at the Leonora Ground
semi-final matches.
Playing at the Leonora ground on Friday, Slingerz FC and Alpha United romped to comprehensive victories to book to place in the Final of the Elite League once more.
In the first semi-final, Slingerz made light work of Pele FC in their 3-1 win.
Slingerz scorers were Clive Nobrega in the 15th, Julian Wade in the 48th and Trayon Bobb in the 52nd. An own goal by Kester Jacobs in the 11th had given Pele the lead.
In the other match, Alpha “The Hammer United” disposed of Fruta Conquerors by a surging to a 4 nil victory.
Alpha would have played second fiddle to Fruta Conquerors through the League stages made sure they stamped their authority in this match.
Alpha’s goal were due to some skilful plays by the experienced quartet of Anthony Abrams in the 26th, Andrew Murray in the 29th, Delon Lanferman in the 86th and Daniel Wilson in the 93rd.
The final is slated for Sunday June 19 at the same venue and Alpha will have at the back of their minds last year’s 3-2 lost against Slingerz.
Frutra Conqueoers will still want to end the season on high after finishing second on the points standing as compared to fourth during the Genesis stage, with win over Pele in the third place play-off.
Winner of the League Finale round will pocket $4,000,000 while the second, third and fourth place teams will collect $2,000,000, $1,000,000 and $500,000 respectively. Similarly, the point’s leader prior to the knockout stage in the League Finale round will pocket an additional $1,000,000.
The winners of the Finale round final will be assured of a spot in the 2017 Caribbean Football Union (CFU) Club Championship.
If two different teams win the Genesis and Finale championships, they will face each other in a match to decide the overall champion. Both teams will advance to the Club Championship.
Should Slingerz win both championships, the final will not be necessary. In that case, Slingerz and Alpha United (the team with the best aggregate record over both rounds, other than Slingerz) will advance to the CFU Club Championship
The season champion will then be crowned when the winner of the League Genesis and League Finale respectively faceoff in a single matchup. That winner will then earn an automatic berth at the CFU level.
Similarly, if one team wins both sections of the championship, they will faceoff with an All-Star team instead of competing in a season playoff.
