GFF’s Stag Elite League…

Slingerz FC and Fruta Conquerors continue to distance themselves from the rest of the teams in the Guyana Football Federation’s (GFF) Stag Elite League Finale, following convincing victories on Friday eveningat the Georgetown Football Club (GFC) ground, Bourda.
Slingerz, who have been termed the “unstoppable” team in the League Finale, overcame an enthusiastic Guyana Defence Force (GDF) unit to win 2-1.

Veteran striker Vurlon Mills was the man to change the score line when he netted in the 10th minute of the match, but the soldiers were up to the task at hand, as Clifford Garraway responded with a goal in the 16th to equalise the scores.
Though both sides created opportunities, the scores ended 1-1 at half-time, but 10 minutes into the second half, Mills was on the pounce once again as he gifted himself another goal in the 55th.
Mills’ double made sure that the West Coast based team, continued their sublime record in the League and more so in the Finale, have won all their nine matches to date, to comfortably occupy the top position.
GDF, on the other hand, will remain in fourth position, with three losses, four wins and two drawn matches.
In other game, Fruta Conquerors continued their merry run in the League, with yet another stellar performance, as they produce two late goals to earn a much-deserved, come-from-behind victory over Buxton United.
Clive Andries was the man to put Buxton in the ascendancy when he notched the first goal of the match in the 43rd, as the half ended 1-0 in favour of the East Coast side.
It was the eventful second half that saw the Tucville-based unit respond with a late surge, as Hubert Pedro (76th) and Eon Alleyne (79th) scored within the space of three minutes to ensure they further consolidate their second spot on the points table.

Fruta Conquerors have just lost and drew once from their nine matches, with seven resounding victories. Meanwhile, the East Coast side has been having a dreadful time in the League Finale as they suffered their sixth loss, to go with only one win and two drawn encounters, which have left them in the penultimate position on the table.
The League will continue today at the same venue where Monedderlust FC will play Pele FC from 18:00h, followed by the home side GFC against Alpha United FC from 20:30h.
