Soctiabank donates 1000 educational booklets on energy related issues

As part of its drive to assist in the dissemination of information on matters related the energy, Soctiabank on Wednesday presented 1,000 booklets to the Guyana Energy Agency (GEA) for distribution to Grade Six –students, ranging from ages 9-12 in Primary schools located in Regions Three, Four, Six and Seven.

The booklets focused on the four core subject areas of Mathematics, English, Science and Social Studies and include activities designed around the ‘Energy’ theme. The booklets, ‘What is Energy?’ were designed by the GEA with the main aim to “foster discussions within classrooms on energy and energy related issues and to encourage further learning through an entertaining medium”.Marketing Manager of Scotiabank, Jennifer Cipriani, who was present at the simple handing over ceremony, explained that Scotiabank was pleased to support the GEA’s efforts to “educate Guyana’s future leaders about the importance of energy,

energy conservation and efficiency”.

“Through our Scotiabank Community Programme, we are committed to giving back to our communities in which we operate and our branches will be identifying one or two schools within their communities to receive copies of the booklets. We hope that by educating our young ones they will in turn teach other members of their household about energy conservation and over time, we all can create a positive impact on our environment,” she explained.

The booklets were distributed to the Deputy CEO of GEA, Gayle Primo-Best who noted that her agency was happy to have the support of Scotiabank to push the initiative.”Educating Guyana’s young minds about energy use and its impacts on the environment will significantly help in ensuring that Guyana has a secure and sustainable energy future… GEA would like to develop in our children as we prepare them for their role in tomorrow’s green economy,” the Deputy CEO stressed. Primo-Best was said to have further commended Scotiabank for partnering with the GEA in printing the booklets, noting that the donation will aide in assisting the GEA in achieving the vision of allowing the children to come to the realisation that “they are Guyana’s future ‘Energy Champions’ and that they have a responsibility to protect the environment.”
