…to be completed in 24 months
The Health Ministry on Saturday officially turned the sod for the construction of a new regional hospital in Bartica, Region Seven (Cuyuni–Mazaruni).
The facility, valued at approximately $6.8 billion, is part of the Government’s ongoing investment in strengthening the country’s healthcare system and expanding services to underserved areas. The facility is expected to be completed in 24 months.

Once completed, the Bartica Regional Hospital is expected to significantly improve access to medical care for residents of Region Seven and nearby communities. The project aims to reduce the need for patients to travel long distances to access specialised treatment.
According to the Ministry, the hospital will be equipped with modern infrastructure to support a wide range of services. These include upgraded emergency care, enhanced diagnostic capabilities, surgical theatres, and dedicated maternal and child health services. Improved inpatient facilities are also planned as part of the development.
The hospital is designed to deliver both primary and secondary healthcare services in a single location, allowing for more coordinated and efficient treatment.
Over the past five years, Guyana has significantly expanded its healthcare infrastructure, with a major focus on building several new regional hospitals across multiple regions.
Among these are Diamond Regional Hospital, Region Four (Demerara–Mahaica); Enmore Regional Hospital, East Coast Demerara; Bath Regional Hospital, Region Five (Mahaica–Berbice); No. 75 Village Regional Hospital, Region Six (East Berbice–Corentyne); De Kinderen Regional Hospital, Region Three (Essequibo Islands–West Demerara); and the Lima Regional Hospital, Region Two (Pomeroon–Supenaam).
