Pedestrian Lester Oselmo, a labourer of Lot 152 Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara, died on Sunday afternoon after he was struck down by a vehicle while he was attempting to cross the public road at Soesdyke, East Bank Demerara.
Based on reports received, motor car PHH 4810, being driven by 42-year-old Bobby Moore of Lot 14 Norton Street, Wortmanville Georgetown, was proceeding along the Soesdyke roadway when the 32-year-old Oselmo suddenly ran across the road and into the path of the moving vehicle.
Allegedly unable to avoid a collision, Moore stuck Oselmo, who was flung several feet into the air before landing on the roadway, sustaining grave injuries in the process. He was rushed to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where he was pronounced dead on arrival.
A breathalyser test conducted on Moore established that he had no trace of alcohol on his breath. Nevertheless, he was taken into custody as Police continue their investigations.
