Softball action set to continue today

After a brief break for various reasons, the Back to Eden/Permaul Trading/ Khan’s Trading/Trophy Stall-sponsored Softball tournament will continue its action today, with several matches being played at the Malteenoes Sports Club (MSC) and Parika Salem grounds.
Swan Strikers will be involved in an epic showdown with the in-form Wellwoman team at 12:30 hrs, and at 15 hrs Swan Strikers will face 4R Lioness. At the Parika Salem Ground, the undefeated Regal Masters will take on Parika Defenders at 11:00 hrs.
In last week’s fixtures, held at the MSC, Speedboat demolished Spikeland Challengers by a whopping 160 runs. Sent to the crease, Speedboat posted a commanding 288-6 of their given 20 overs. Top scoring for the in-form Speedboat

were Lennox ‘the Assassin’ Marks with 74; Wazeer Hussain following up his successive tournament performances with a blistering 61; and Greg Singh chipping in with 53.
In response, Spikeland Challengers crumbled under pressure and were bowled out for 128, with Lennox Marks following up his batting performance by claiming 3-13.
In the other fixtures, Success Masters trounced Narine Masters by three wickets. Batting first, Narine Masters scored 167-9 in their allotted 20 overs. In response, Success Masters chased the total down in 18 overs, ending with 168-7. Mark Fung top-scored with 41 not out.
In the female segment, 4R Lioness went down to Swan Strikers by nine wickets. Batting first, Lioness made 115-7 off their allotted 15 overs. In response, the Strikers raced to the total in 9.3 overs, ending with 116-1. Carmelita Adams scored 54 not-out, and Alisha Gilkes supported with 30.
The competition is organised by the Guyana Floodlights Softball Cricket Association (GFSCA), and also features teams in the Masters’ Over-50 category and Female Open.
