Softball champs find form in Republic Cup warm-ups

Some of the country’s top softball teams returned to form when action in the Regal Sports softball tournament continued last Sunday at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground, Thomas Lands.
Regal Masters defeated Fisherman by 30 runs in a feature over-45 years old clash. The victors took first strike and posted 153-5 off their allocated 15 overs. Opener Mahase Chunilall (1×4; 6×6) hit the top score of 46 and got good support from Rudolph Baker who made 40 (1×4; 5×6) and Mohendra Arjune 23 (1×4; 2×6).
Chunilall added 63 for the fourth wicket with David Harper who was dismissed for 14. D. Thomas claimed 2-15 and Zameer Hassan 2-22 bowling for Fishermen Masters who were restricted to 123-7 in 15 overs. Ramo Malone scored 18 while Unnis Yusuf and Dennis Mangra 16 a-piece. Parsram Persaud captured 2-14 and Fazleem Mohamed 2-17.

The powerful Regal Masters continue to rule the softball circuit with another clinical performance

In the second Master’s match of the day, Mike’s Wellman overcame Ariel by 42 runs in another one-sided affair. Batting first, Mike’s Wellman managed 114-4 in 15 overs with Lloyd Ruplall stroking two fours and a similar number of sixes in a fluent 57 while Nadram Samlall weighed in with 24 and Greg De Franca 18.
In reply, Ariel were bowled out 72 in 14 overs with only R. Ramdin threatening with 27 runs; Sheldon Perch snared 3-9 and Hardat Heeranandan 2-11.
Mike’s Wellman maintained their winning ways when they beat HS Masters by seven wickets. HS Masters took first strike and got to 69-6 in 10 overs. Rudy Rodrigues made 32 (2×6; 4×4); Latchman Kallicharran took 2-30. Mike’s Wellman replied with 72-3 in 9.1 overs. Greg De Franca made 36 including two fours and one six.
In the lone Open match on the sunny day, Regal All Stars defeated Success by a nail-biting five runs. Regal All Stars had the first use of the crease and scored 120-9 in 15 overs. Kumar Bishundyal made 25 with two fours and two sixes while Sachin Singh made 20 (3×6) and Amir Nizamudeen 13. D. Ramnauth captured 3-27, Chien Gittens 2-4, N. Boodhoo 2-12 and D. Deonarine 2-23.
Success threatened momentarily but fell for 115 in 15 overs in response. N. Boodhoo clobbered five fours and two sixes in 40 while Anand Rooplall made 14; the duo added 57 for the third wicket. Sachin Singh grabbed 3-18, Fazal Rafiek 2-16 and Amir Nizamudeen 2-27.
The matches were used as useful preparation ahead of the annual Republic Cup which goes down Saturday and Sunday at the Malteenoes Sports Club ground. The competition which is organized by the Georgetown Softball Cricket League Inc (GSCL Inc) will see action in three categories; Male Open, Male Over 40-years old and Male Over 50-Years old.
