Sol Guyana to invest US$13.8M this year, new jetty completed

Sol Guyana Executives on Monday commissioned its new jetty at Rome Terminal in Agricola, East Bank Demerara.

General Manager, Earl Carribon at the event announced that the company will invest US$13.8 million in Guyana’s economy this year in light of Guyana’s endless possibilities in the oil and gas sector.
According to Carribon, construction of the jetty commenced in 2020 but was immediately impacted by the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Despite the challenges the pandemic brought, Carribon said that Sol continued to work through the pandemic to see the completion of the state-of-the-art jetty.
Calling the project, a “milestone,” Carribon also noted that it is not only a milestone for Sol Guyana but also for the development of Guyana and its oil and gas sector.
“This is a milestone project not only for Sol Guyana but also for the furtherance and development of the bunkering and support services infrastructure for Guyana and its booming oil & gas sector This investment demonstrates Sol’s belief in the sustainability of Guyana’s development agenda,” he said.
Sol’s General Manager also mentioned that the company is undertaking many other projects like the construction of a new 55k barrel diesel tank at Rome, running a fuel line from the Rome terminal to GYSBI fuel farm, the construction of the Mandela Service Station and the McDoom Service Station which are both expected to see completion this year.
He stated that the company plays a vital role in the seamless operation of the offshore activities of the oil & gas sector by providing fuel, working across all sectors like marine, agriculture, manufacturing, hospitality, and road transportation.
Meanwhile, Carribon stated that the company will invest US$13.8 million in Guyana this year, with US$50 million expected to be invested over the next five years.

Local talent
Additionally, Carribon expressed that developing local talent and promoting local content is one of the key priorities of the company. As such, the Sol Guyana’s management team, according to Carribon, is comprised of 78 per cent Guyanese.
“In addition, 97 per cent of our overall staff are Guyanese. We recognise the importance of our team in achieving what we do, and we will continue to provide training and development opportunities for the enhancement and enrichment of our people,” he said.
Carribon said that Sol is committed to playing its part in the development of a prosperous Guyana for the betterment of all of its people.
Also in attendance at the event were Foreign Affairs Minister Hugh Todd; Guyana Energy Agency Head, Sharma; Private Sector Commission Chairman, Cheong, and Parkland International President, Pierre Magnan.
