Soldier dies in Essequibo Coast accident

A 20-year-old Guyana Defence Force (GDF) rank on Wednesday evening lost his life in an accident on the Capoey Public Road, Essequibo Coast, Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam).

Dead is Private Misteno Thomas, of Middle Road, Buxton, East Coast Demerara (ECD).
Police headquarters revealed that Thomas was the rider of a motorcycle, which was proceeding south along the eastern side of the public road at a fast pace when he lost control of the vehicle.

Police stated that the front of the motorcycle collided with the front right-side of motor car HB 7499, which was proceeding north. The impact caused the GDF rank to be tossed into the air, before landing on the right front window screen of the motor car and falling onto the roadway.
Having sustained injuries to his head and about his body, Thomas was picked up in an unconscious condition by passers-by and transported by a Police vehicle to the Suddie Public Hospital, where he later died while receiving treatment.
A breathalyser test was conducted on the driver of the motor car and the reading was given as zero micrograms of alcohol on the breath.
Investigations are ongoing.
