A father of three is now counting his losses after one of his sons set ablaze their Lot 737 Block 8, Mon Repos, East Coast Demerara (ECD) home.

Reports are the fire started at 15:00h on Sunday as the occupants of the house, Jagdat Gart and his two sons, were imbibing.
During the drinking spree, one of the sons set the wooden building on fire, which quickly engulfed the house.
Jagdat and his other son saw the smoke emanating from his son’s bedroom and managed to escape the building unhurt. The entire building quickly went up in flames, and they were unable to salvage any household items.
A neighbour told this publication that she barely saw smoke coming from the house and immediately rushed to render assistance to the two males who were intoxicated.
She stated that everyone is baffled as to why the man would set his father’s house on fire.
The son has since been arrested and is assisting with the investigations.
