Son slapped with murder charge after allegedly beheading mother 

A 24-year-old mason from Cornelia Ida, West Coast Demerara (WCD), has been charged with the murder of his mother and remanded to prison following his appearance at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court on Wednesday.
Greedesh Ramkissoon of Lot 80 Block Y, Cornelia Ida, was charged with murder, contrary to common law, in connection with the death of 55-year-old Surujdai Kahrui, also known as “Sharda”.

Police said Ramkissoon was arrested on May 29, as investigations intensified into the killing, which occurred the previous day at the family’s residence. The woman was found beheaded in her home.
He appeared before Magistrate Rabindra Singh at the Leonora Magistrate’s Court, where the indictable charge was read to him. The court remanded Ramkissoon to prison and adjourned the matter to August 7.
Kahrui’s body was discovered at her Cornelia Ida home on May 28. Initial investigations revealed that she lived at the residence with her two sons. According to Police, one of the sons returned home and found the woman motionless.
The other son was seen at the house before the discovery.
Police reported observing while processing the scene marks of violence on the woman’s body, and her head was next to her right hand. Her remains were later transported to the Ezekiel Funeral Home pending a post-mortem examination.
Investigators also retrieved Closed-Circuit Television (CCTV) footage from the area as part of the probe.
