Sophia hoping to ‘go all the way’

Courts/Malta Pee-Wee Schools Football

Coach of Sophia Primary school Wayne Hicks has confirmed with confidence that his talented team has one ultimate and that is to win the seventh edition of the Courts / Malta Schools Pee-Wee competition. “The dream of these guys is to go all the way and all we have to do is whole our composure, keep our heads high and we can win this tournament” Hicks told Guyana Times Sport.
The coach is also eager to prove a point that his team has the ability to change the social stigma attached to the community.

Young David Weeks (with ball) has been one of the stand out players in the tournament

“Seeing it is a depressed area, I chose to work in the depressed areas and what I’m trying to do here is create something that people can start to recognise them because everyone has that stigma that because its Sophia, they are bad. We are here to prove them wrong and we are here to stay”, Hicks posited.
Sophia who are in their second year in the competition have played unbeaten, only being held to a draw by Marian Academy during the group stages. Leading their destruction has been David Weeks who has scored 4 goals in four matches and every time he has gotten the ball, he has looked a serious threat.
Meanwhile, the quarter-finals of the tournament will get started today at the Banks DIH, Thirst Park Ground. Sophia will be tackling Reedemeer while the clash of the day pits Marian Academy against St Agnes.
School of the Nations will meet Enterprise while Stella Maris and West Ruimveldt should produce another exciting match.
