  • Prince Ian Jackman made his appearance at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Court before acting Chief Magistrate Faith McGusty where the indictable charge was formally read to him. The court heard that on March 31, while in the company of others and armed with dangerous weapons, Jackman allegedly murdered Singh in the course or furtherance of a robbery.

The case was adjourned to a later date.

Singh, 40, of Hill Street, Albouystown was reportedly attacked around 10:30h on March 31 while playing a game of cards with two other men outside a shop near his residence. Two suspects, said to be wearing face masks and armed with handguns, approached the group on a blue and black motorcycle, coming from the direction of Sussex Street.

The armed men reportedly discharged a round to instill fear before targeting Singh, who attempted to flee through an alleyway that leads to his home. However, the attackers gave chase and opened fire, striking him twice in the thighs. Singh collapsed before reaching his yard.

The assailants then relieved the injured man of a quantity of gold jewellery and a wallet reportedly containing $40,000 in cash. Eyewitnesses and neighbours, who responded moments later, assisted in carrying the bloodied Singh from the alleyway and rushed him to the hospital. Despite undergoing emergency surgery, he later succumbed to his injuries.

Investigations led by the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Ruimveldt Police Station subsequently resulted in Jackman being charged in connection with the murder.
