Sophia man shot dead while feeding horse

– suspect’s house allegedly set on fire

A 33-year-old security officer was on Tuesday shot and killed by his neighbour while feeding his horse at B Field Sophia, Greater Georgetown.

The dead man has been identified as Andre Easton, also known as “Lawless” of Lot 27 Reserve Dam B Sophia, Greater Georgetown.
According to information received, at around 09:00h on the day in question, the father of one was feeding his horse in the community when the suspect approached him with a gun and shot him three times.
Easton, after being shot attempted to escape his attacker but collapsed a short distance away from where he lived and died almost immediately.
At the scene, the now dead man’s reputed wife, Samantha Shelto, told media operatives that the shooting incident stemmed from an argument Easton had with the suspect three days ago.
“This morning (Tuesday) he come to feed his horse, and yesterday (Monday) a boy pulled a gun on he and tell him that he has to move his horse from there or he will kill him… so this morning (Tuesday), when he turn up to feed the animal, the suspect shot he. I in the house feeding my child, and I hear he dead,” Shelto explained as tears trickled down her cheeks.
However, following the threats made against the now dead man, his mother-in-law explained that he had lodged a report with the police but nothing was done.
“I don’t know why the police don’t come when you mek a report. When you dead then they coming…this place needs a police patrol to patrol around this area often,” she expressed.
The family is now calling for justice since they believe that Easton’s life should not have ended in such a gruesome way.
“I need justice; I need justice seriously because if me in get justice, I going have to take my own justice because this is not easy. This is a young man, he ain’t see life yet,” she stated.
The suspect, Guyana Times understands, has since fled the scene and was not seen since. The police have launched a manhunt for him as investigations continue.
Easton’s body was taken to Lyken’s Funeral Home awaiting a post-mortem examination. He leaves to mourn his reputed wife, 7-month-old baby, parents and other relatives and friends
Meanwhile, the home of the suspect was reportedly set alight by angry residents in ‘B’ Field Sophia late Tuesday evening.
Based on reports received, following the shooting incident, residents became enraged about the situation and would have visited the suspect’s home in search of him.
They reportedly questioned his mother about his whereabouts but she denied having knowledge of same.
She was however, later cornered with documents belonging to the murder suspect. The woman had to be rescued by the police who were summoned to the house.
It is believed that the residents would have set the house on fire in retaliation to the death of the young security officer..
