Sophia men charged in stolen camera matter

Sevon Patterson, 25, and Romel Guttery, 26, of Lot 112 South Sophia, Greater Georgetown, appeared before Magistrate Leron Daly at the Georgetown Magistrates’ Courts on charges of corrupt transaction.

The duo pleaded not guilty to the charges which stated that on October 19, at Camp Street they corruptly obtained the sum of $50,000 from Keno George, on account of helping him to recover his stolen camera and lens.

The court heard that the items mentioned in the charge were recovered.

On September 28, 2016 at Hadfield Street behind Durban Park, George, a photographer attached to another media house; Terrence Thompson and two models were held at gun and knife point, and relieved of their personal belongings. The belongings were estimated to be valued more than $1.1 million. According to reports, the photographers were doing a photo-shoot with the models around 16:00h when two bandits approached the quartet and robbed them.

The court heard that George’s camera was valued at $400,000 while the camera lenses were valued at $600,000.

The two defendants were placed on $50,000 bail each, and ordered to return to court on November 10, 2016 for statements.
