Sophia woman killed after motorcycle crashes into reversing truck

A woman of Sophia, Greater Georgetown was on Wednesday killed after the motorcycle on which she was travelling crashed into a reversing truck on the access road of the Eccles Industrial Site, East Bank Demerara (EBD).
The dead woman has been identified as 37-year-old Roxanne Daniels.
Based on reports received, motor lorry GAB 332, owned by RK Concrete Guyana Incorporated, was at the time being driven by a 41-year-old man of Eccles New Housing Scheme. As the truck was reversing along the road at Eccles Industrial Site, the rear portion collided with motor cycle CJ 4871, owned and driven by 48-year-old Maxwell Thomas of Onderneeming, West Bank Demerara (WBD). Daniels was reportedly the pillion rider of the motorcycle.
As a result of the collision, both the motor cyclist and the pillion rider fell on the roadway and sustained injuries about their bodies.
They both were picked up in an unconscious state and taken to the Diamond Diagnostic Centre, where Daniels was pronounced dead on arrival.
Thomas, on the other hand, was examined by a doctor on duty, treated, and referred to the Georgetown Public Hospital, where he has been admitted, suffering from a fractured right leg and other injuries. His condition is regarded as critical.
Meanwhile, the fatal accident was reported to the Police, resulting in both the lorry and the motorcycle being lodged as investigations continue. A breathalyzer test was conducted on the driver of the lorry, but there was no trace of alcohol in his system. He remains in custody, pending charges.
