South Ruimveldt man charged for raping teen

Twenty-eight-year-old Travis John of South Ruimveldt, Georgetown was on Monday placed on $150,000 bail by Chief Magistrate Ann McLennan when he appeared before her charged for raping a 15-year-old girl.

John faces an allegation that on February 1, 2017, in the vicinity of Kitty, Georgetown, he sexually penetrated a teen who is under the age of consent.
The prosecution’s case is that on February 1, 2017, John went over to the teen’s residence and committed the act; and the matter was reported to the Police after the teen’s parents found out about the incident.
He was released on $150,000 bail, and is expected to return to court on August 20.
Three weeks ago, John was arraigned before the Mahaica Magistrate on a robbery charge alleging that he was the driver of the getaway car used in the July 17, 2018 East Coast Demerara robbery in which a man who had just withdrawn money from a bank had been pounced upon and robbed of some $1.7 million.
