A Devon Millington double sealed a dominant win for local Futsal stalwarts Sparta Boss, as they won 4-1 against West Back-Road on an exciting opening night of the Gold Rush tournament, held at the National Gymnasium.
Elder statesman Millington opened the scoring in the 7th minute to take the lead for Sparta Boss. However, Back Road’s Josephus Charles immediately fired back to draw his team level in the 8th minute, before Eusi Phillips netted on the stroke of halftime to give his team a 2-1 advantage going into the break.
As play in the second half resumed, Millington added another in the form of a stupendous strike to extend the lead for Sparta. Gregory “Jackie Chan” Richardson would then cement the victory with a glorious strike of his own in the 19th minute.
Earlier in the night, Broad Street Bullies edged Kitty 2-1 in their opening fixture. Darren Benjamin opened his account for Broad Street in the third minute, while Kitty’s Simon Emmanuel responded in the 9th. Veteran baller Jimmy Gravesande put Broad Street a goal up when he scored in the 12th Minute.
Agricola Champion Boys pipped BV 5-4 in a thrilling encounter, as Roy Matthews scored a hat-trick in the 6th, 17th and 18th minutes, while Domini Garnett supported him with a brace in the 5th and 7th minutes to sink BV.
Akim Curry with a double, Reon Hopkinson and Delroy Deem were the scorers for BV.
Meanwhile, Sophia took bragging rights when they defeated Linden’s Guinness Champions Dave and Celena Allstars 3-2.
Joshua Kamala, Desmond Cotton and Dwayne Low were the sharpshooters for Sophia, while Kennard Simon and Sean Brewley scored for Dave and Celena.
In other results, Albouystown Ballers defeated Festival City 1-0; while Buxton put 5 goals in the back of the net of Camp Street All-Stars in the lone qualifier.
Showstoppers put up a futile resistance, as Tigerbay defeated them 5-2.
