Sparta Boss secure inaugural Guinness Cage Challenge title

Sparta Boss remained the dominant team on the futsal scene when they defeated Uprising in the first-ever Guinness Cage Challenge tournament played on Friday evening at the Haslington Tarmac, ECD to secure the title and go home $400,000 richer.
Dubbed East Coast Best versus the Rest, the tournament saw home team Haslington bowing to the superior skills of Sparta 1 – 3 and having to settle for being second best, which attracted a prize of $150,000.
Jermin Junior led for the eventual victors with a brace scored in the 6th and 18th minutes. The night seemingly belonged to Sparta, who in the 11th minute were gifted a goal that gave them a two-possession lead following the own goal scored by the opposition.
Les Charles Critchlow’s 29th minute goal for Uprising was nothing more than consolation, since Sparta were already in cruise control and awaiting regulation time whistle to claim top honours.
In the third street playoff, Leopold Street brushed aside Broad Street 2 – 0, with Okeene Fraser claiming both goals, scored in the 6th and 12th minutes. Leopold Street were awarded the third place prize of $150,000, while Broad Street carted off $50,000.
In the semi-final round, Uprising sank Broad Street 5 – 4 to secure a spot in the final, thanks to a helmet trick from Phillip Williams. He scored in the 8th, 13th, 22nd and 24th minutes, while Critchlow struck in the 31st.
On the other side of the pitch, Jamal Cozier scored in the 3rd, 6th and 14th minutes to complete a hat-trick,
While Kevin Cummings scored in 16th minute.
Junior warmed up with another double in the semis, as Sparta defeated Leopold St 2 – 0 on their way to the title. Junior was adjudged Most Valuable Player, while Cozier accumulated nine goals to win the Highest Goal Scorer award.
