Sparta Boss, Tiger Bay record commanding wins

Guinness “Greatest of the Streets” Georgetown segment…

The second night of the Georgetown segment of the Guinness Greatest of the Streets saw eight victors emerge from the fixtures which were closely contested at the Berlin Tarmac.

Claiming the first victory on Saturday night was LA Ballers, who defeated John Street 2–1. Andre Hinds put John Street ahead in the 6th minute, and they stayed ahead until the 19th minute, when Jaleel Hamilton scored a Guinness Goal [GG] (counts as two) for LA Ballers, to take them to victory.

Tiger Bay then romped to their second victory with a 4-0 whipping of Albouystown ‘A’. Jason Fredricks and Keoma Gravesande each scored once in the first half, while Solomon Austin recorded a 19th minute GG.

Lennox Cort’s 8th minute goal was the decider for Albouystown ‘B’ who needled Alexander Village in the match that followed.

Back Circle shot down Rising Stars 2–1 with goals from Adrian Aaron and Jermain Beckles, even though
Jorrell Tyrell drew first blood for Rising Stars in the 5th minute.

Leopold Street claimed a 1–0 win over Future Stars, with the lone goal coming from the boot of Okeene Fraser.

In game 6, North-East defeated Sophia 3–2, as Kelvin Moore’s GG and Shaquille Browne’s 7th minute strike overshadowed Sophia’s GG scored by Joshua Kamal.

In the penultimate game of the night, Sparta Boss blew away Charlotte Street 4–1 with goals from Ryan Hackett (14th), Sheldon Shepherd (16th) and Curtez Kellman [GG]. The opposition’s lone goal was scored by Windell Allison in the 4th minute.

The final game of the night saw Broad Street battle to a nil all draw before prevailing 4–3 on penalty kicks.

On Friday night, North-East defeat Rising Stars, Albouystown ‘B’ won against Charlestown, LA Ballers defeated Broad Street, Leopold Street sank Albouystown ‘A’, Tiger Bay needled Future Stars, and the same result played out in the match which Gold is Money won against John Street.

Sophia and Sparta Boss were the other two victors on Friday when they defeated Back Circle and Alexander Village in respective games.

The group stage, which will last for three nights, will end on July 26. The top two finishers from each pool will advance to the quarterfinal round, and subsequent semi-finals on July 27. The grand finale is set for August 3 at a venue to be announced.

The eight teams who fail to advance from the group round will contest the Guinness Plate Championship.

Winner of this Georgetown leg will pocket $500,000 and the championship trophy, while the second, third and fourth place finishers would settle for $300,000, $200,000 and $100,000 respectively and the corresponding trophy.

The Georgetown leg winner will also earn an automatic berth in the National Championships in August.

To date Beacons (Bartica Champions), Melanie ‘B’ (East Coast Demerara winners), Brothers United (West Demerara/East Bank Demerara winners), Trafalgar (Berbice champions) and High Rollers (Linden champions) have secured automatic berths to the national championships.
