Dear Editor,
Recent reporting by Stabroek News, particularly the article titled “US mortgage company used by Rodrigues says non-residents facility requires reference from local bank and US account,” reflects a continued pattern of speculation rather than factual accountability.
The headline provides no meaningful insight, and the article itself does nothing more than outline routine cross-border financial service requirements that are entirely standard and appropriate. The information is common knowledge to anyone familiar with international banking and mortgage facilities.
At no point does the article establish any wrongdoing, illegality, or conflict of interest on the part of Hon Susan Rodrigues, MP Instead, it relies heavily on implication, repetition, and the attachment of her name to routine financial procedures, creating an impression of impropriety without evidence.
Public officials must be held to high standards of accountability, and the Minister has consistently demonstrated transparency and respect for the law. However, accountability must not be confused with insinuation. Journalism serves the public best when it informs truthfully and objectively, not when it selectively reports on narratives that lack substantiation.
The continued focus on lawful, personal financial matters does not highlight any breach of duty but instead raises legitimate questions about fairness and balance in reporting. Shame on Stabroek News. This reporting is obviously pandering to the Mohameds.
Yours sincerely,
Marvel Oriah
