Speedboat operators upset by decision to remove turn system

Several Speedboat operators plying the Wakenaam-Supenaam route are peeved over the move made by junior Infrastructure Minister Annette Ferguson to reverse the existing turn system. Several operators spoke out against the decision, stating that the current system is effective and should not be changed.
On that note, President of the Parika-Supenaam Speedboat Association, Arnold Adams, is very much concerned about the high-handed approach to reverse the existing turn system to load Speedboats plying the Parika- Wakenaam route.

Adams said the Association is confident that the turn system used to load passengers in speedboats is the best tested option, and as such, should not be changed.
“Any decision by the ministry or anyone in authority to reverse the turn system will create further chaos to a system that worked well for numerous years,” Adams said.
The Association’s President further noted that changing such a system will also have serious negative consequences to other associations that are implementing the turn systems successfully.
The Association therefore calls on the authorities to engage its leadership to be a part of meaningful consultations with residents of Wakenaam so that a democratic approach can be adopted.
Adams further stated that the Association is not prepared to support any decision that only finds favour with one boat operator.
The Association is therefore calling on the Minister to review the decision.
