A 29-year-old man is receiving medical treatment following an accident at the Schoonord Roundabout, West Bank Demerara (WBD) on Thursday night. According to Police, the accident occurred at about 21:20h and involved motor vehicle PAJ 8926, which was being driven by the man from Schoonord, WBD. Preliminary investigations revealed that the vehicle was proceeding south along the eastern carriageway of Schoonord New Road at a reportedly fast rate of speed when the driver lost control. Police said the front portion of the vehicle collided with a light pole and the roundabout, causing the light pole to fall onto the roadway.
The collision resulted in damage to the lights and solar panels attached to the pole, while the vehicle received extensive damage.
The driver sustained injuries to his body and was taken to Sheriff General Hospital at Leonora in a conscious condition. The damaged vehicle has since been lodged pending examination.
Investigations into the accident are ongoing.
