A 42-year-old Guyana Defence Force Corporal has been hospitalised after he crashed into the Russian Embassy along the Rupert Craig Highway on Saturday morning.
Injured is Dwayne Samuels of Bachelor’s Adventure, East Coast Demerara.
Reports are that at about 01:12h, Samuels was proceeding west along the northern drive lane on Rupert Craig Highway at a fast rate of speed while driving motor car PYY 991, when he lost control of the said vehicle while attempting to navigate the turn.
Police have since said that this resulted in him colliding into a billboard situated on the western parapet. He then continued to proceed further in a western direction and collided into a concrete block. The motor car then flipped over the concrete fence, where it came to a halt in the Russian Embassy compound.
Members of the Guyana Fire Service were summoned and later removed the driver, who was in a semi-conscious state, and with the assistance of EMT personnel, he was taken to the Georgetown Public Hospital’s Accident and Emergency Unit, where he is currently being treated by doctors on duty in a stable condition.
Meanwhile, in Region Two (Pomeroon-Supenaam), 20-year-old Brandon Marcus of Lima Sands, Essequibo Coast, was admitted as a patient at the Suddie Public Hospital after receiving injuries about his body upon colliding into a parked motor lorry.
According to Police, Marcus was driving motor car PRR 7207 and was proceeding north along the Anna Regina Access Road also known as GPL Street, at a fast rate of speed when the driver lost control and collided with the left side rear portion of motor lorry GSS 2297, which was parked on the eastern side of the roadway facing north.
Marcus received injuries due to the impact which damaged both vehicles.
He was taken to the Suddie Public Hospital.
