Springer earns World U20 400m bronze as Guyana shines in Oregon

Tianna Springer delivered Guyana’s standout performance at the World U20 Championships in Oregon, USA, by claiming bronze in the women’s 400 metres final on Friday.
Springer completed the one-lap event in 51.76 seconds to secure Guyana’s first medal of the championships. Her podium finish followed victories in both her opening-round heat and semi-final.
Poland’s Anastazja Kus won the gold medal in 51.06 seconds, while Ataja Stephane-Vazquez of the United States collected silver after clocking 51.36.
National record-holder Malachi Austin also reached a major final for Guyana, finishing sixth in the men’s 400m in 46.03 seconds.

The United States secured the top two positions through Jayden DeLeon and Quincy Wilson. DeLeon won in a championship record of 44.47 seconds, while Wilson registered a season’s best of 44.62. South Africa’s Leendert Koekemoer took bronze in 44.96.
In the men’s 200m, Tishawn Easton established a national Under-20 record of 20.66 seconds while placing third in his preliminary heat and advancing automatically.
Easton returned for the semi-finals but ended his campaign after finishing seventh in heat one in 21.19 seconds. His compatriot Skylar Charles placed seventh in his opening heat with 21.51 and did not advance.
Olivia Solomon was also unable to progress beyond the women’s 800m semi-finals. She finished fifth in heat three with a time of two minutes, 6.15 seconds.
