Most Valuable Player Fayon Harry sent her South Ruimveldt Primary School peers in with in great delight as she scored two goals to help her team convincingly dethrone St. Angela’s Primary in the Smalta/ Ministry of Public Health Girls Pee-Wee Schools Football Tournament on Saturday at the Ministry of Education ground, Carifesta.
The diminutive Harry made her first mark in the 18th minute and the second in the 30th via a penalty kick. South Ruimveldt astutely managed to tame the former champions’ menacing forward Naksie St. Jules, who also deemed the highest goal scorer with eight goals, was given no opportunity to add to her tally.
Meanwhile, in the third-place play-off, West Ruimveldt won 2-1 on sudden death penalty kicks after the match ended in a goalless stalemate with St. Pius Primary.
Other results of the day saw North Georgetown hammering Tucville 3-0 in the five to six play-offs. Annesa English hitting a double via goals in the first and 16th; Taliah Tappin scored the other goal in the 25th for the winners.
Additionally, in the seven to eight play-off, Redeemer Primary crushed F.E Pollard by an identical margin but this time all three of the goals coming as a result of penalty kicks with Crystal Washington , Akela Hodge and Monisha Frank making the conversions.
The competition saw total of 16 schools across Georgetown participating with the large focus of the event being to bring awareness on the spread of Human Papillomavirus (HPV).
