St. Cuthbert’s Mission Secondary wins Upper Demerara/ East Bank title

St. Cuthbert’s Mission Secondary secured the Upper Demerara/East Bank District title on Thursday when they defeated East Bank champions, Diamond Secondary School at Bayroc Ground in Upper Demerara.

Opting to take first strike Diamond just manage 111 all out off 19.4 overs of their allotted 30 overs. Romario Persaud made 19, including two sixes and Joel Craig also scored 19 runs, which included three fours and one six. Bowling for St. Cuthbert’s Mission, Zak Ferreira grabbed four important wickets for 28 runs off four overs while Mark Clenkian 2-22 of 3.4, and Paul Henry 2-10 from one over supported with the ball.

In reply St. Cuthbert’s Mission once again made hard work of an otherwise easy score, reaching their target with two wickets to spare off 19.4 overs. Zak Ferreira, turned in a good all round performance, by hitting 32 which inclusive of four fours and one six to add to his four wickets, while Elroy Dundas made 24 with four fours and one six.

Bowling for Diamond Secondary Joel Craig managed to grab the best bowling figures for his team as he finished with 4-25 from 5.4 overs, while Mavindra Dindyhal took 3-23 from six overs.

The win for St. Cuthbert’s Secondary meant that they took the Upper Demerara/East Bank District Title, and will now face the winner of the West Demerara District on February 24, 2017 at the Meten-meer Zorg ground on the West Coast Demerara.

Before that Saraswat Secondary and West Demerara Secondary will reach on February 21 at the Meten-meer-zorg ground to battle for the West Demerara District Trophy and for a place to meet St. Cuthbert’s Mission Secondary.

On Monday February 20, last year’s GCB/NSSCL champions, Chase Academy will meet Charlestown Secondary to determine the Georgetown District champion and for a place on February 28 to play the Mahaicony/East Coast District Champions. Mahaicony Secondary and IBE will play on February 21 at the Fairfield ground to determine the Mahaicony/East Coast District winner.

The match between East Bank Essequibo Zone Champions, Parika Salem and Leguan Secondary which was scheduled to play on February 17, 2017 in Leguan was washed out without a ball being bowled. This match is now rescheduled for February 22.
